OK, I'm probably going to be doing this this coming summer and I want to be clear on the process.

I will have one expensive ticket (me) and two companions (wife and one child, both no status) using the $99 certificates.

Will I have to call US Airways right at the 72-hour window for Gold upgrades to ask about splitting up the PNR? Or is this something that can be done at booking time (since I have to book these $99 tickets via phone anyway)?
