The post wasn't about miles and points and didn't belong in MilesBuzz. That much is pretty clear.
Randy has suggested that meta issues about the board don't belong in the forums dedicated to discussion of miles.
The thread wasn't about miles and points so clearly isn't at home in MilesBuzz.
Now, what folks would see from reading my post closing the thread, but would miss if they only read this complaint, is that I offered to chat further with the original poster (and by extension anyone else interested in furthering the subject) about where it might be most appropriate.
It just wasn't all that clear or obvious.
I suggested that Only Randy Petersen might be alright as well as OMNI but that the right answer was nonobvious. I admitted my own fallability and uncertainty and invited the member to collaborate in finding the right place.
I quote from my post closing the thread
Meta issues are probably best in the Only Randy Petersen forum. It might also be OMNI appropriate.
If you do want to continue discussing this topic, drop me an email and I'd be happy to engage with you over where it might fit best. I do want to be helpful. But I'm also confident that MilesBuzz just isn't the right place for it.
No one has yet contacted me or (AFAIK) any of the other MilesBuzz moderators about this.
Before doing anything with the original thread, I
did consult with a colleague to test my reaction.
Moderators make mistakes. I make mistakes.
Closing this thread in MilesBuzz wasn't one of them, I think. But that's a judgment call, and we may reasonably disagree.
Happy to take that disagreement to email if you'd like to engage me on it.
