Replying only to topic.

To confirm your observation. Yes, the golas of FT are to a a PG rated Web site. There's plenty other Web sites that offer a lattitude of topics that this might fit in to. While it has been said that OMNI is about any topic that members want to exchange dialog for outside of travel, miles and points, there does need to be judgment call on just how far that envelope can be pushed.

Historically Gaucho100K has posted to the edge of what I think OMNI should tolerate (and sometimes beyond that limit). Sometimes (my observation) because he's a 'local character' within that forum (said with prestige, not malice) he's been able to add uniqueness. And sometimes he misses the mark. This is one of those times. I think it shows how moderators can be used to the positive in any forum, and that is to help other members define that border. I can't answer if Gaucho100K was purposely trying to push that limit here, but I agree with you that this thread had the potential to be things that FlyerTalk and I as a member, do not want FlyerTalk to be known as.

The moderator did the correct thing in closing the thread. But I don't think each topic like this is material for ORP. The first instinct for any member when they feel posts are off-topic or off-base is to let a moderator know their feeling. I'm comfortable that moderators will look the situation over and assist when and where they can. Often, for close calls like this they will ask others for a second opinion and that is the system at its best.

Hope this helps and again, glad to see that a moderator was able to assist you.

Now, for this other stuff. It seems that greater than 50 percent of this thread is off-topic. That is well past any reasonable members tolerance. So, i'll try and delete non-topic posts here so that those of you that clicked on this thread can actually read what you thought it was going to be all about.
