I've also heard what you have heard but I can't (don't want to) believe it.

I can't see how the current seat can become sufficiently angled to allow 4 seats across without reducing the width to such an extent that it's not fit for purpose.

Even the slight difference in angle between the A340s and 747 main deck seats creates a perceptible difference in width.

Admittedly, I can't see what further J seat revolution there is to come but I did expect something along the lines of CX/US/AA.
