This all makes sense. I checked a couple of other flights in tonight and the theory here is corroborated - the last (late) flight SFO-LAX, arriving ~10:15PM, is scheduled to a remote stand. That's a bum way to end what is certainly a late day for folks on that flight. There are a number of others (SMF, SAN) scheduled into the HGR stands too.
I have to say, the employees working that remote ramp were all pleasant and apologetic but it was clear that they hadn't quite ironed out the bumps in operating from remote stands at LAX. I have a couple of other flights scheduled on CRJs from LAX and am crossing my fingers that it won't be the dreaded HGR ops.
After that I'll be looking at Southwest for the short segments; while not my first choice, it's predictable and usually pretty well-run. At the very least it'd be nice to get a notice when booking the ticket, similar to what American is/was doing when they were doing construction on their gates for 737/S80 operations. Particularly for passengers with mobility issues it would be a very challenging process. There is no elevator in the terminal - stairs only to the bus - and the bus itself had steep, narrow stairs.
Certainly not ADA compliant (although the bus was wheelchair equipped).
