Absolutely true. There is enough evidence out there that an average, or even local management level, screening clerk has no problem working with druggies. If I were doing it, I would pose as a druggie because it's obvious that even TSA screeners understand that illegal drugs are not a threat to commercial aviation. So, there's no conflict of interest augmenting one's income.

As far as a backstopped fake ID goes, if your intent is to become a martyr at an airport, all you have to do is to fool an ID-checker clerk once for about 30 seconds.
