Well, speaking of "invasion," at least what happens when you type
www.flyertalk.net is not as bad as what used to happen a few years ago when you mistakenly typed
www.usps.com instead of
www.usps.gov . (The letter P stood for a colloquialism for a certain domesticated animal, or vulgar usage for a bodily part.)
I believe a famous female singer (and would-be actress) actually won a lawsuit within the past couple of years evicting a group of religious sisters from using the .org website in the name of their patroness, who was born over 2,000 years ago and did not just decide to use the name in the 1980s.
I'm thinking of registering a domain myself for a new small business, a law office -- I'm admitted in California (inactive), Guam, and the CNMI. To be "safe," am I expected to register all the .com, .net, .org, and .biz variants of my proposed name?!
I guess self-help is cheaper than a lawsuit. We're not all "material girls" with money to burn on domain eviction.
