Actually, the flights they put them on (USAir) were not the best connections time-wise. They could have been put on a Delta flight with a better connection through Atlanta. Don't know what happened there, but it resulted in a greater delay for them.
I am sure he will write United. Like some of you on here, I believe they are due some sort of compensation.

As to why not DL, usually it goes any other UA flight/s , if none then any other *A member or partner flight/s, only if both of those come up empty do they put you onto any other carrier. Since US is a *A member that was that.
