more from original poster (OP)

As the original poster, I will try to get my son to sign on and answer your myriad of questions - since some of you are so very cynical about whether this happened the way I described it.

You may think a safe landing makes up for all the minutes in the air when there was a burning smell in the aircraft and the passengers in the back were asked if they saw flames or if they could see the landing gear down. That would terrify me, although I am sure many of you seasoned flyers out there would consider that "just another day in the air." This is more than just a missed connection.

I don't know that the flight from Eleuthera said United Express or Silver, but the ticket showed it as United Express. Actually, their tickets were originally purchased months and months ago on Continental when my son first planned their Eleuthera honeymoon. The original connecting time was greater than an hour, but when United re-did their flights, they shortened that connection. Surely, United thought it was sufficient time between flights to make that Houston connection.

Actually, the flights they put them on (USAir) were not the best connections time-wise. They could have been put on a Delta flight with a better connection through Atlanta. Don't know what happened there, but it resulted in a greater delay for them.

I don't think that my son knew to swipe their BP's for the Houston flight in FLL, but he said the flight was still there, and no one was allowed to board.

I am sure he will write United. Like some of you on here, I believe they are due some sort of compensation.
