Changed seat to E+ within 24 hour window; bumped out of it 3 hours later
Hi all, been reading this forum for a long time, but first time posting.
I am a 2P (or Silver now, I guess), and have been for the past 6 years (one year at 1P) based in DEN. I'm not real happy with the recent merger changes, and today did not help. I'm tall (6'4"), and economy plus kept me earning status on United. I have a flight tomorrow, and once the 24 hour window opened, I changed my E- seat to an E+ middle seat and got a seat confirmation on the reservation summary screen. 3 hours later, they had changed my seat back to my original seat in the back of the plane. The seat map is still showing open First -- is there a chance that I will still get an E+ seat tomorrow? Do they continue to sell the E+ seats 2P's are supposed to have access to even after the 24 hour window, so that it is more like a space available "upgrade"? Is this how the new United will work for low level elites in the future?
Given that this was the only real benefit for premier members (other than baggage, which I never use), I'm considering not being loyal to any particular airline anymore. For most flights, I can buy Frontier tickets that give me extra legroom for less than E- on United.
