Bingo: do be sure to get chits when you enter, as the complimentary selections are not very good at all. Chits will get you for-charge wines and beers in addition to hard alcohol, though it is also good form to leave a modest tip ($1 is what I do) per drink served by a bartender. Status-based entry should get you a chit or two, and if you need another, don't be shy about coming back to the desk to ask.

If you happen to reach to BA Gold, you'd be entitled to Flagship Lounge access when flying AA, which has a self-serve bar. For comparison, I'm sitting at the Malpensa Galleries Club lounge right now, and I'd say Flagship Lounge drinks are on par with this, and food is maybe a couple of notches better. Complimentary food is not served at domestic Admirals Clubs, aside from apples, pretzel mix, and the odd carrot/celery spread. Of course there are only four Flagship Lounges in AA's repertoire, and the LHR one doesn't count in my book due to the presence of superior CX and BA lounges just next door.
