Am sure you probably know certain areas of Chicago are dangerous as well and you certainly have no problem living in Chicago. Every place has good and bad neighborhoods and typical tourist spots are usually safe. Once you start visiting places outside of continental US you will realize the world outside is just as safe and beautiful. Good luck in picking your destination.
