1) I looked at BA silver or even gold features, i dont see any advantages for US domestic travel other than acquiring high number of miles. Not in terms of upgrade opportunities with partner airlines.

Should i better off trying for status on domestic airlines like Alaska or Delta? I will have quite number of trips coming up in the next few months.

2) what is BA's typical year? I did few few trips in Dec 2011 on BA, those are still counting towards status. but i understand it usually between jan 1st and dec 31st. is it not right with BA?
