As for high tea not being an event repast - I would guess then that you haven't had a good hotel high tea! It is a fab meal, combining the best of both worlds - afternoon tea with a decent meal. Absolutely – and any meal can be turned into an "event repast" with the right company and the right food, and in the case of
tentseller's mother the right memories too.
I remember having an absolutely stunning high tea in a hotel in the highlands of Scotland: all the food was fresh and freshly cooked, including the puddings and yummies. The setting was spectacular, the crockery and cutlery and glassware sparkled...
And it was definitely high tea, not afternoon tea.
Sadly though for
tentseller it was nowhere near London.
