printing out an itinerary seems very easy insurance.
20-30 international flights a month is not that many for those that do a lot of intra-regional international travel amongst the rest. For those travels in the Americas or Europe, I very rarely carry a print-out as electronic itineraries have always been used by me to get things to work out for me even with regard to immigration control staff.

PVG and PEK's immigration control staff have never demanded I provide a print-out and in the few instances were I volunteered a print-out they wanted to deal with the airline electronic records anyway and get fresh printoutd direct from the airline. Most remaining governmental demands for a print out to enter a terminal to check-in or enter a country are confined to less developed countries that seem to be more paranoid in some ways than even Communist China.
