A cash upgrade will be taking you to a cash fare bucket, for which there are probably still seats left.
To upgrade using Avios there need to be redemption seats (i.e. seats in the award fare bucket) for that cabin available.

There are various things that can stop upgrades being possible using Manage My Booking - and having a booking that is already in some way complex (i.e. different cabins, etc) can certainly be one of them.
You need to establish if there are award seats avilable on the flight in CW.
If yes, then phone up to do it.
