Hey Cowbell,

Sorry about your flight. It really appears you have 2 issues. One which I do think is somewhat significant. The first part - the flight part, there were actually only 2 diversions from Reno last night. Your flight and the Southwest flight that was right behind you (I guarantee, they had the same cabin experience you had). There was a CRJ-700 that landed just after 5pm (and believe me the Q400 is a better plane in wind than the CRJ-700) and then the next arrival wasn't until 5:43p when Southwest landed. It appears that you were in an unlucky window of weather. Hence why the flight wasn't cancelled at Seattle. Second, the QX pilots are some of the best in the industry. Pilots will tell you that all Dash 8 airplanes fly pretty well in the wind. I can personally attest to that when I landed in Seattle during an infamous windstorm and the 757 behind me didn't make it and had to go around. All QX and AS planes have a heads up guidance system that detects "real" wind shear and pilots go through rigorous training to understand it and fly through it safely. So that detection and training also keeps you very safe and wouldn't put you in a situation like Delta 191 in Dallas many many moons ago (the last major wind shear accident in North America) .

Second issue, you're a Gold 75 according to your second post. Biggest issue I have with Alaska is they don't "Elite" tag your bag. If it's not on the white bag tag, the ramp will never look at your ID tag. Nor are they trained to look. And for that Alaska is shameful. An Elite's bag should never be pulled (that includes Golds, Silvers, MVPs, Platinums, Titaniums, etc). And elite bags should get better handling. The other airlines have figured it out, not sure why AS won't do that. As for the reaccommodation, I assume they offered to send you back to Seattle so that you could try again on Sunday. It would have also been nice if they had handled you (all elites) first. I now Sac has their own flights to deal with and they obviously weren't expecting diversions. That's not an excuse but you were "unplanned".

Sorry you had a bad day.
