I would be wary of the "grass is always greener" phenomenon.
I'm a Hilton Gold and I've been considering a switch to Marriott for precisely the same reason -- their program seems better.
I think the bottom line is that Marriott points are worth (a little) more but you earn fewer of them. Hilton points are definitely not worth a lot (most of the domestic rewards I'm currently looking at are pricing out at about $0.045/pt) but they hand them out like candy.
(It seems like Hilton is always running a promo for double points -- or effectively double points. Factor in the more generous elite bonus and you can earn a crazy number of Hilton points in a short period of time, even without CC spend.)
One other note... If you're an AMEX cardholder, I recently noticed that you can earn 4x MR points at Marriott properties by booking through
membershiprewards.com/earn. This is in addition to the Marriott points you earn for staying. More than anything else, this has me considering a switch to Marriott.
