First off, cross posting your question won't make you any friends on FT.
Next, I have to second the previous response: it depends on what they have,
where you stay. Since you are asking, I assume at places you frequent, both chains have similar properties available. If Hilton doesn't have the properties, your stuck with Marriott.
The two loyalty programs are pretty similar. You've read the benefits with HH are better, but HH points are worth much less. They both have reward nights starting at 7500 points/night, but in real use you will find that a couple of years ago Hilton moved almost all properties out of the lower categories, e.g.- 20,000 is almost worthless with HH, but is a usable number of points with Marriott.
If you do decide to try HH, give them a call and tell them you are gold with Marriott, and see if they will give you a status challenge. If not, then at least sign up for the MVP gold status (code MVPF if they ask for it).
On FT, you'll find plenty of people in both programs to give you a comparison.
