Well, IMO the Logis chain hotels are fairly spartan... I have done much better with the Chambre d'Hotes type of place in this price range. Family run little inns with large variations, you can get the highest-rated ones (4 epis) on the Gites de France website.

A great feature of staying at these can be the Table d'Hote, which is a home-cooked dinner at a communal table, with the other guests and many times with the hosts themselves. A unique experience!
