I tend to agree. Itīs nice not having to set my alarm clock for 3a.m. to snag the one available upgrade seat.
Unlike some others I donīt care too badly about AC setting R availability to R0 at T-8days. If R was consistently available at T-7, far fewer people would buy Latitude fares. I can see how many business pax buy their tickets not more than one week in advance or make changes one or two days beforehand, it therefore makes perfect sense to hold back some seats for those pax.
I do however find it very disturbing when upgrades are only processed at the gate even though there are plenty of J seats available and thereīs no hope selling 20 J seats a day before departure. It seems this is particularly common on TPAC routes.
I surely hope AC finds a way to process the upgrades a few days in advance except for the maybe half dozen seats which still be sold. IME AC has been doing a reasonably good job doing this on TATL routes (most of my TATL upgrades cleared between T-5 and T-2 unless J availability was pretty low to start with)
