Logis hotels: A good place to stay and eat
For those not familiar with them, the Logis Hotel association is generally a good bet when it comes to finding a place to stay and/or eat. They're independently-owned and operated by the proprietors (often couples or a family) who reside on premise. Ratings are 1 to 3 cheminees and 1 to 3 marmites depending on quality of accommodation and food respectively. Some of the places are even destination restaurants.
I've previously only been to one Logis hotel (way up in the mountains in the Basque country) where the food's good but never stayed. On my recent 6 week trip, we ate/stayed in a 5 others. These ranged from a hotel in the walls of a fortified hill town (proprietor was a well-travelled British cook who followed his now-wife back to her home), a hotel in a small Pyrennean village (recently purchased by a Belgian couple who were excellent cooks), one in the shadow of a Cathar castle ruin - the entree and main courses were o.k. but you soon discovered that desserts were his passion), and one in the Camargue - very basic hotel but surprisingly the best regional restaurant.
The half board can be excellent value.
I wouldn't expect the online promotional rates (such as stay two nights, pay for one) to be honored given the state of IT though.
