I think this is an amazing result for BA and, frankly, sightly worrying for the EDI consumer.
I can't see any airline wanting to startup EDI-LHR given the competition. For passengers just wanting to get to London then there are LCY, Easyjet, BA and Eastcoast to compete with. That PLUS the cost of operating to one of the more expensive airports going makes the likelihood of a new entrant about zero.
Given BA have also made agreement to carry connecting pax for other airlines then there is also competition for the connecting pax business and little incentive for connecting airlines to start anything up - very little in it for them (unless BA make interlining difficult but I doubt that would be allowed)
So BA will end up with the EDI-LHR monopoly and capacity will therefore probably be decreased (no BD flights) meaning increased fares or reduced availability.
ABZ may be able to attract a couple of flights a day as there is less competition.
I'd like to see Virgin bring some competition (both route and product) to the market a la Virgin America but sadly, can't see it happening. Should stop SRB's bleating mind. He can hardly carry on complaining and then not take up the offer of providing a competing service on a key route.
