Both my Sapphire Pref. and Bold Ink annual fees posted last month. I called about Sapp. and told that they couldn't waive the fee. CSR put me on hold and when she came back she said she gave me the point equivalent and redeemed them for a credit. Awesome! I later called regarding my Ink Bold and was offered 10K points since they couldn't waive the fee. I was amazed that not only did I get the bonuses on one but on both accounts!
I don't know about converting to a regular Ink. Since I got the credit/points, I didn't inquire about the downgrade.
