First, I'm sorry about the loss of your eldest daughter, it is a tragedy when a parent has to bury a child.

As to the gist of your issues, the above posters make some astute observations, some more gently than others.

It is difficult for one to know exactly what was going on as I was not there but I can say that I have stayed at the Flora and my wife has with other family, as well and we have been treated very well, even though we only held Gold status. It probably does help that we were repeat guests -- but almost always on points, I should add.

Have we encountered condescending service at other prestige or non-prestige hotels when we have traveled -- of course, so I can't rule out your reports out of hand.

Nevertheless, for someone who is lifetime Platinum, you should certainly know that the length of one's stay could also determine whether one was getting a suite upgrade, or not. The couple you overheard could have been ther for 1 -2 days and therefore, they could have been arriving and departing at a low time period. You state that the hotel was not full, but you can't really know that for sure and you certainly did not know the room availability going forward from the day you checked in.

Yes, it would have steamed me that they were there on points and you felt that they were being treated in the manner you felt you had deserved, but we have all been there, as well. You persisted in your efforts to obtain a suite -- even though the hotel is really under no obligation to provide you one, and as DJ noted, you were initially granted your request of rooms together, and I should add that you previously had written that you did not expect to obtain 2 rooms next to one another at the Flora: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/18193292-post17.html

Further, my wife and I received the comp breakfast at the hotel, and we were more than satisfied. Consequently, when you state that such an offering was beneath the hotel of such a stature, it diminishes your entire argument, as many here were happy with their treatment from the hotel, notwithstanding the poster above with his luggage entitlement issues -- as if his Platinum status is an indicator that he is not a potential terrorist. May I remind him that many of the 9/11 hijackers flew in First Class, if not the day of the tragedy, then at the very least during some of their test runs.

What I and others do find somewhat startling is your claim that the hotel stole your money. As another poster noted, your wife -- at best -- mislaid her wallet -- of this there is no doubt.

Since she had mislaid her wallet, could it not have been possible that she had lost in on the way to the train station or at the train station? After all, if one was certain that they initally had placed their wallet in their purse and it was not there, they why are we to unquestionably accept the claim that it was mislaid in the room, and not somewhere else and then lost in transit? Then, to essentially state that the hotel deliberately kept your mislaid wallet -- without any proof -- is spurious and appears to be the result of your overall displeasure at your perceived less than stellar treatment by the staff.

I think it best that you accept the fact that your family has been through a very stressful period in your life and that your hotel stay was not what you had expected, despite the fact that you did end up with the suite, after all --and we all have had these experiences, as well, where a desk clerk denies only to have one materialize in the end.

Enjoy your future vacations and look at this past one as having received some recognition of your Platinum status at this property.

I have asked the Moderator to consolidate this thread into the master thread of this hotel. As a poster here for 5 years, you should have done likewise and not started a separate thread concerning your percieved issues.
