I stayed at the Grand Flora about three years ago and found it to be the very worst Mariott that I have ever stayed at and I thought then that it should be flushed from the Marriott system. Your post simply confims that opinion.
First, I agree 100% that the staff was the most rude condenscending uncooperative bunch of jerks that I have ever run into in all of my stays. Long waits to even get the attention of a desk clerk who obviously had more important things to do than attending to guests--like talking on the telephone, talking to each other or simply disappearing.
When I checked out I was on my way to Florence by train for three days, but had to come back to Rome to catch my return flight. I asked if I could store a larger suitcase during my brief trip to Florence and pick it up on my return. I was very curtly told that would not be possible due to security reasons--even though I was Plat, and obviously a very good customer (and should be presumed a farily unlikely secutiry risk). I was told to cart my suitcase to the train station and store it there which added about an extra hour to my trip standing in a long line along with extra cost for the three day stroage and another half hour to reclaim it. Whereas, in Bangkok I routinely do this at the JW without question as I travel around SE Asia.
But even worese, the place is grossly over priced with miniature rooms and totally inadequate bathrooms. It desperately needs a complete refresh / remodel. While the outdoor breakfast area has wonderful views during good weather the breakfast itself is medicore.
Highly unrecommended and absolutely to be avoided.
