I won't be jumping ship because:

(1) UA schedules to/from CLE are better than anyone else

(2) Good mileage redemption opportunities world-wide

But that's all that's keeping me. I have a trip to BOS coming up and chose to fly AirTran instead of UA:

(1) UA's nonstopflight out of CLE was more convenient, but cost $500 more for that segment on an ERJ-145: no chance of an upgrade; risk of delay problems when flying an Express carrier. AirTran's flight is on a nice 717.

(2) Mileage earning on such a short flight makes no difference for redemption or Premier qualification.

This won't be a cheap trip, but UA's pricing was stratospheric with no benefit for the higher price offered in return.

Likewise my international travel has been pushed to other *A carriers. My last international journey was on NZ, and my next one won't be on UA:

(1) UA has very poor access to BNE, although other *A carriers have strong access. There's just no way to get to BNE on UA coded or operated flights.

(2) Flying UA trans-pac LAX or SFO to SYD is one of the poorest transpac experiences currently on the market.

(3) UA's pricing is often not competitive.

MP still seems to be a good *A programme in which to park miles. But my spending on UA metal will be less than last year, and UA has no hope of ever getting any Premium Economy or C class int'l fares from me.
