Hi Folks,

I was flying CCU - BKK couple of weeks back and as usual was in Y..
I logged in for OLCI to get a good Y seat but was surprised to find that even the business seats were available for seat selection.. I thot its some system error and booked 1A .. Having flown this sector multiple times lately I was aware that this flight has loads of Plats and Gold's ..
To my pleasant surprise, I found in the airport that they had converted this flight into a full eco flight as there were many Y overbookings and only 1 business pax.. They refunded the fare difference to the business pax ..

Now my query is :
What did Jet gain out of this ? I mean it could easily keep the business cabin intact and upgrade plats / golds or even other Y pax just as a good gesture. This would have been a pleasant surprise for them.. Even otherwise I frequently see Plat pax's being regused upgrades at the check in counter and this would have given them an oppty to get some voucher upgrades done ?

To note that the service in the business cabin was of economy but ofcourse the seats were much better

Any similar experiences anyone ?..
