As we are based in London we have tried a number of routes. Easyjet fly to Grenoble during ski season and we had the luck of a near empty plane on one of the return legs a few years ago. The options we have used:
Eurostar via Lille (was the preferred for many years)
Eurostar via Paris
BA direct to LYS (current preferred)
Easyjet to LYS/GNB
Swiss LHR/ZRH/LYS
Ryanair to GNB (no thanks)

I think LHR/CDG/LYS would lose the speed of flying and the convenience of the train and I don't feel like going back to CDG again after nearly getting stuck there on Christmas Eve.
