Maybe I'm the one confused, but I think that the sales folks may have been talking about a different type of "points" than what the OP was asking about.
A couple of years ago, MVCI changed how they sell and book ownership weeks. It used to be based on purchasing in week increments. They now sell ownership "points" similar to what Disney does with their timeshares. Which I think is what the sales person you talked with was referring to.
I took the OP to be talking about using Marriott Rewards points which could be used to book rooms at MVCI properties. My reply was based on using these "points" to get a room. How owner would use their purchased "points" to get a room, I have no idea and would assume there is a specific interface/web-tool they would use.
