SFO is a highly popular business destination (think Silicon Valley, also some other related and unrelated industries) and quite a popular leisure destination. Those two together can make redemptions a bit tough. Not sure how availability compares with other West coast destinations, but I don't expect anything else in this category would have worse availability.
