I've got some Hyatt points sitting around since 2005 as I literally haven't stayed in a Hyatt property since then. I've been a long time Starwood stayer so I am very familiar with their program and am hoping certain parts are the same for Hyatt but can't confirm as I can't book a room yet as I don't have sufficient points!

My question is this. If I book a room using my points but need to change dates or cancel altogether will I get my points back? I'm guessing yes but was hoping someone with experience could confirm. For SPG for the most part I just cancel my reservation on-line and the points are immediately deposited back in to my account. Am hoping the same for Hyatt.

In a nutshell I've got a lot of UR points and am looking to move them to my Hyatt account so I can get a pricey room for about a week. We're travelling in the off season, about 9 months from now, but would still like to get the room booked early to ensure we get it and that I don't transfer my UR points and not end up being able to use them as all the rooms may be booked closer to the date. My dates are pretty firm but there is a slight chance they may change and just want to make sure if they do I don't get hosed from a points point of view.
