I've heard of other airlines (such as Delta) that hold copies electronically for 30 days, so hoping AA has a department that does the same!
Did they pay for seating in a premium cabin? It sounds like they might be concerned that you cashed in the ticket and purchased a much less expensive coach ticket, like major league umpires used to do. I say this because normally, you showing up where you are supposed to be when you are supposed to be there is proof that you took the flight. Of course, it also sounds like they don't have much knowledge about airlines.
