updated review of 1 Bed King Suite, March 2012

This is certainly my favourite Hilton in Holland.

I stayed here this week on business and had booked a standard King room (paid stay, Euro 206/night) and with the NOR1 option I ticked the Exec King room option (the free upgrade)…so wasn't expecting much more than this when I checked in…(and it would have been a very nice room in any case)…I received the only 1 Bed Suite (rates are usually Euro 700 for this room) they have (there is a royal suite and a studio as well over the standard exec floor rooms) and was curious how this would look.

The room is about 60 m2 and was brilliant. Very clean and excellent quality.

As the room is on the top floor and on one corner of the building you get views from two directions as well as a walk around balcony. There is no furniture on the balcony and it is more to walk and get some fresh air but still very nice, you can access the balcony through three double doors (1 in living room and two in bedroom). If you want more space or somewhere to sit then the exec lounge is the place with a nice roof terrace.

The living room had a decent TV and Bose stereo as well as a mini bar.

The 'kitchen' area has a mini fridge, microwave, dishes, sink and a Nespresso machine (I don't remember that being in the other exec rooms but that may have changed since the last time I stayed here). There is also two full size wardrobes with lighting here in addition to the storage in the bedroom.

The bathroom is a nice high quality finish with neutral colours and plenty of space. Dual sinks, a large deep bathtub, a separate walk in shower and a full height window for natural daylight as well as a decent wall mounted WC.

The bath soaps and accessories are a larger size bottles than I see in normal rooms (50 mL size body wash for example)…

The bedroom and bathroom have sliding smoked glass doors (no locks) which I found nice as they did not steal any room or need to swing taking any space but some may have issues if you must lock the door for privacy!

The bedroom is the same size as the living room with a nice King bed, a chair and foot stool, small table with two bottles of mineral water (diamond free bottles), the same size TV as in the living room, a working area and some storage space with a safe, ironing board, iron, bathrobes and slippers, etc…

The windows in the suite are all floor to ceiling and provide plenty of light and nice views.

There is separate air conditioning controls for the bedroom and the rest of the suite.

I loved this room, only a pity that I was only staying one night! (but probably why I received this great upgrade as well).

I took some photos of the foyer and main areas as the lighting and design work is very nice in my opinion…

Recognise this chap? (the picture is made up of coloured pencils! and is varying in depth due to different lengths of pencils that are used).

All of the staff were brilliant and extremely friendly, one of the best experiences with staff I have ever had. I ate in the bar area and it was quite empty even at 20:00 (when I asked, the bar keep told me that the hotel was 95 percent full, just no one was down at that time really, only a few others having a drink).

I really liked the assorted nuts they provided free with the drink and there was some wasabi coated nuts that were great! Again, very friendly staff and couldn't do enough to help.

The exec lounge had a few more people in there around 22:00 (closes at 22:30) and is decent enough with a very good selection of drinks (alcoholic or not) including hard spirits, wine, beer, coffee, soft drinks, fruit juices and small snacks and such.

There is a fairly big terrace area and some nice rattan furniture but the weather was a bit cool to be out there for long, even with the nice weather we are having here in Europe right now.

Anyway, a brilliant stay, would heartily recommend staying here instead of Amsterdam if you can handle the extra distance. Love walking around The Hague and the atmosphere.

Hope the pictures are of use and interest for those considering any trip to the Netherlands and this area.
