It's actually in ourt company travel policy, which forms part of our company handbook, that the employee is entitled to join a frequent flyer program and any points earnt on business travel are for the employees benefit. The employee can use them to upgrade their class of travel on a business trip if they do so desire, but the company will never ask an employee to do so, or to use miles to fund business travel. If the employee wishes to use their points for personal travel then that is fine.
It's the only company I've ever worked for that has gone out of their way to make it clear it's ok for employees to do what they want with business earned miles
