Local Long Distance Rate?
On a recent 11 night stay at a Hilton Brand property, I used the in-room phone to place a call. (I was over my limit on my cell phone minutes, and the posted local rate would have been cheaper than the overage charge.) The local call rate if I recall correctly was $1.50 for the first 60 minutes and then 10 cents per minute thereafter.
I viewed the folio online after checkout to find a $28 telephone charge. I've spoken to the hotel a couple of times to try to identify the reason. They insist that the charge is accurate, and that even though the call was within the same area code it was billed at the "local long distance" rate. The best offer they were willing to make was to credit me half the charge amount.
I have asked them to produce a chart of rates, but have not received anything yet. Am I wrong for being peeved about this? If I messed up and read the signage wrong, then it should be fairly quick and painless for them to provide a breakdown of charges, no?
I'm considering sending an email to the GM to let him know that I will be directing my future stays to another local property over $14. I would have likely done 40 or so more nights there this year.
Am I being unreasonable here?
