I have done that before. I called the hotel ahead of time and explained that I will be arriving later on or the following day, but my wife and daughter will be checking in at a given time. The hotel would fax me a credit card authorization form. I would fill in the information, fax it back with a copy of my personal debit card and federal ID. I never ran into any issues and neither my wife.
