As for the UK and Ireland forum, I have spent a lot of time perusing it, but I've found the majority of posts have to do with London/Britain,so it was hard to find much on Scotland and Ireland.
London's in England. Just to be clear Britain includes England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland plus various islands. The different bits have varying degrees of independence - Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland all have their own parliaments. The southern part of Ireland is a separate country - the Republic of Ireland. You don't need to know the details but do avoid suggesting that Scotland/either bit of Ireland/Wales is in England - the natives are a bit touchy.
Second Hiddy's suggestion of Glasgow - it's a fascinating city and, whilst welcoming visitors, is not a tourist trap. Earthman is right though, Dublin is lovely.
