Call back, ask to split PNR so the FO UG can clear independent of the companion UG (assuming you'd want one FC seat even if you can't get two), then ask that the companion on the old PNR to be placed on UG List (waitlist for V/X). This works, just used it two weeks ago, and me (FO) and companion (regular SM) were UG at the 24 hour window.
