Haven't thought much of Delta with their devalued miles and low sign up bonuses but I noticed an interesting add when I was looking for an airfare on the Delta website. After picking the flights it asked if I would like to sign up for the american express card for delta with 70K miles bonus. 25K for first use of card and remaining 45K after spending $5000 in 6 months. This seems to be a much better deal than I have ever seen with Delta so I applied and was approved.

However it seems there is one small catch to applying. You must have a skymiles account and not have the credit card. I only got the offer when I was logged into the Delta website with my skymiles account and not without. No special link. Just login with your skymiles account and pursue a fake booking and you will get the offer. You can be approved without purchasing the ticket. Also comes with $100 statement credit for Delta for the flight (if you actually purchase it) or otherwise for a Delta purchase in the next 3 months if you don't. I didn't buy the ticket but I plan to in the next 3 months to get the credit. Note that this is for the Gold card. You can always try making a skymiles account with Delta to see if they'll let you have it with a new account. My account was over 2 years old if that makes any difference. I'll be interested to see what other people's success is.
