The entire landside terminal seems to serve as a homeless shelter. I recently went through at 2 AM, and there were literally hundreds of homeless people sleeping everywhere. I'm assuming the airport allows this as long as they leave at a certain time.
I always wondered how the local news is able to get live shots with hundreds of 'stranded passengers' in the background after brief storms have canceled a few flights... Thanks for clearing that up!
