I doubt the bartenders make high wages so my tipping a buck for a drink in the club isn't going to kill me but will help them out, especially if others see me to do it and follow suit.
Just thinking about the economics here; if your bartender is working for free, he or she could be making a killing financially just on tips alone. How many drinks/hour are served? If you consider that only half are giving tips, at $1 each, that could still come to a
lot of money.
Glad I read this thread; I've not gotten a non-alcoholic drink for a bar at a United club (nor have I gotten any alcoholic drink there either), and it wouldn't have crossed my mind to tip for a coke or 7up. Now if the situation arises, I know to do so. (Wasn't that long ago that I didn't know you were supposed to leave a tip for the chamber maid; my social graces are apparently lacking)
