Totally true. While they still have huge problems with income and social inequalities, it's amazing the progress the country has made in the past couple of decades. I really do feel sometimes that Chile is above the US in some things. The Metro in Santiago, for example - inaugurated the same year (give or take one) as the DC Metro, and now one of the best subway systems in the world, while DC's is falling apart.
Anyway, that was OT, but whatever.
