You know, I think you may have hit on it, for me at least! I buy luggage ostensibly in search of the perfect bag but really because it embodies the journey. And the journey is as much about the anticipation (the potential for adventure) as anything.

I continue to expand my collection. I just bought a few pieces of Tommy Hilfiger that I just could not resist for their design and eclectic value thinking "I'd like to use these on my next trip to South America. That thought, combined with the adventure potential made the purchase irresistible. The bag will be perfect for that "Adventure" to me.
Since my current girlfriend talked me out of my Ogio luggage set, I think I needed to replace that anyway. Thus is my justification.
I should add, my girlfriend loves to travel, but does not "collect" luggage, but she does get a brand new set every year in anticipation for her next adventure!
