I've never done it, but I'm sure I've read of people upgrading a redemptipn booking with Avios (eg, CW to F), so I guess a downgrade will work too.

What I don't know is whether it needs reticketed when this happens and whether the change in your household members would preclude that from happening.

Unless someone has done this, you'll probably have to phone and ask.
