Thanks for the info so far. I believe that the LAX-BNE will be all TBIT by the time of the trip, Nov 2012. The constraints are that there is no award availability LAX-JFK on AA, but there is on QF 107. Also, no QF award seats from CNS-SYD, only limited number of seats on the QF codeshare CNS-BNE that is operated by Jetstar.
