Maybe this will end some of the speculation

Admirals Club Access Policy

Active employees can not purchase an Admirals Club Access membership, however active employees and AMR affiliates are eligible to use a day pass only when traveling on a revenue ticket. Examples would be full fare tickets, AA20 tickets, and AAdvantage Award tickets.

Active employees can not use the Admirals Club when traveling on a non-revenue space available pass (D1-D3, TWR), business travel (A9-A13), or industry discount tickets (ID90, ID75, ZED, etc.)
