To give you a bit of background, I travel lots during the year with work, but always on cheap economy tickets so the tier points are hard to build up. The 100% miles boost is appealing, especially with lots of trips to the West coast of America, as well as Australia once a year.
Based on what you're saying about travelling frequently with work in cheapo fare buckets down the back - especially long haul - Silver is well worth it. I used to have do similar with work many years ago (although predominantly one trip a week somewhere in Europe). Silver was a a bloody Godsend! CE check-in (the kiosks were only just appearing at LHR in those days) and lounge access alone were well worth the extra I used to pay on some of my work fares to sit in CE and make up the TPs I needed.

The extra mileage would be a secondary consideration for me with those travel habits.
