Just checked in. Told categorically that this hotel does not upgrade Platinums "because it is not owned by Starwood and different rules apply." I could have an upgrade for a fee. Website shows all categories of suite available tonight.

I said that was fine, but I would be filing a complaint with Starwood if standard suites were available. Suddenly, a one-bedroom suite was available and the upgrade fee would be waived "as I was only staying one night".

Late check-out was offered at 1pm, grudgingly extended to 1.30pm. I got the distinct impression this was a quid pro quo for having the upgrade. Still, they could have insisted on noon, so I was grateful to get something.
