Just to confirm, yes, that was what I had to do. Though that manual request came back to haunt me; the US Air website was unable to display my reservation until I called in and had all traces of KIX->GMP->SHA removed (apparently the flights were listed in my reservation but in some sort of limbo- oops, now I know better than to ask the agent to try to force the system to do what it can't).

(and it looks like I'll have to turn to UA if I want that kind of routing in the future, though not in C- I really like the fact that C awards are 10k miles cheaper on US, and that if I play my cards right, the cost of purchasing the miles for said ticket is less than half of what I'd have to pay in cash)
